Every day a learning day

It never fails to surprise me how much there is that I can continue to learn.  love to learn new things, the only trouble is it’s hard to fit everything in! I have recently been given a loom; I am so grateful for the kindness of people. I have always wanted a loom, but it is a little complicated to set up, I will persevere, and I will make some fabric! Also my sister has learned how to spin, so we may well make a good double act. She has shown me how to do it too so I should be able to use some of my own spun yarn in my loom makes . It may take a little time, but I will get there. Posting my daily page here has fallen behind this month, I have been so busy making new work and trying to progress with the Lost and found project for Left Coast, but I am getting there slowly. Here are my catch-up pages before we reach the end of another month.

Calmness

Finding calmness has never come easy to me. There seems to always something else I must do. Very often the things taking my time up are not even for me. But I do try and stay calm and focused. It is never easy with my butterfly mind. My latest distraction is a dymo label printer, oh my goodness I won’t go into how excited I am, but you might see a bit of it showing up in my pages. Monday took me by surprise as I found myself returning to an old motif , I didn’t fight the urge and in fact it stayed for three days, or maybe I will continue to use it for a while. It did feel nice to revisit it . Today finds me at home with a long list of things I would like to do. I am going to do my best to stay calm, doing what I can on the list and try not to become too anxious if I don’t do everything. Here are this weeks offerings.

Life is like a jigsaw

I think life is a bit like a jigsaw. When we are born, we are given all the pieces of our life. But all the pieces are mixed up and you must piece them together as you go. And just as in the making of a real jigsaw everyone will do it differently. Some will start with all the edges, some just start piecing bits together in patches, others will just start at one point and build outwards. Unlike board games jigsaws don’t come with rules or instructions. There is no one to say how you should put one together, and there is no one who can say one way is the right way. We will all have our opinions as to which is the best way, but I have never ever heard anyone discussing how to put one together. My jigsaw is one of the big complicated ones, with bits that just don’t look like they will ever fit together, but I keep on persevering, piecing bits together and hoping one day to connect them all in the right way.

Well yesterday I must have been tired, I thought I had posted my page on Instagram, it was quite an important one as I came to the end of one of the little books. However, I hadn’t posted it so I have had to post both yesterday and todays pages today. So here are the last three days to catch up with . Both yesterday and todays are quite influenced by some books I am reading to help with my Loss and Memories work. Not sure about Tuesdays work, I had been looking at maps and so its got its roots based on those.

Sometimes you just need to slow down

I don’t know about you but sometimes I get so tied up in (making money) work I forget to enjoy life. It maybe another birthday passing but I have felt it more this year than any other. I just need to remember to sometimes just say no to doing everything for everyone else and do things that are for me. Not in a selfish way, more in a looking after me kind of way. Today I visited a young student I am mentoring in Oldham. I have been doing this since January, every month. We meet in the library café in Oldham library and Art Gallery. It’s a great place and I have said every time I visited, I would have a look around the galleries, but never done it. So today I did. It was great and I would highly recommend popping in if you are ever in Oldham .

Today’s collage is partly made up from things I picked up on today’s visit, and partly thing from my stash.
